CAPELLO WAITS ON BARRY

FABIO CAPELLO hopes to find out before noon today that key midfielder Gareth Barry will be fit to travel to the World Cup.

The Manchester City star will have a scan and rigorous tests on his ankle in London, with Capello waiting for the
results before confirming his 23-man squad for South Africa.

Capello remains hopeful Barry – who plays the important holding role for his country – will be able to board the plane tomorrow.

The Italian anticipates Barry will be able to join in training after England’s first group game against the USA on Saturday week.

England have struggled to find a player to fill in for Barry, with James Milner failing to sparkle when he played the first half in the role a week ago against Mexico at Wembley.

Barry’s fellow midfielder Steven Gerrard brushed aside fears about his fitness following the victory over Japan. The midfielder sparked concern when he twice withdrew from training with a damaged calf.
