Gareth Barry says Everton should consider lot before moving to City

Former Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry says that his Everton teammate Ross Barkley should consider a lot of aspects before making a move to big clubs like City.

It is widely anticipated that City will make an offer for the England international in the summer. Barkley is regarded as one of the top English talents and City are keen to recruit more English players in their squad due to the homegrown players rule. Names such as James Milner and Joe Hart are contributing to this quota right now, butMilner future is under doubt amidst offers from top European leagues.

Barkley has progressed a lot in the last 12 months and is now capable of playing regularly for the England national team. He is valued in excess of £ 30 million by Everton. This is unlikely to pose a major problem for City even with the financial fair play regulations. However, Barry says thatBarkley may be starved of first-team opportunities if he moves to City at this stage in his career. The current Premier League champions are extremely strong in the midfield position. Yaya Touré and Fernandinho are a regular fixture in the centre of midfield and it will be hard to displace them.

"Personally, I think he's still too young to make that move. He's got the right manager here to push him to the next level. As soon as he reaches that next level, then there's another decision to be made. At the moment, I think it's too early," said Barry, who became an important player in City’s midfield for a few years before moving to Everton permanently last summer. He represented City in more than 100 league matches from 2009 to 2014. Barkley, meanwhile, is just starting his career at Everton at 21 years of age.
