KOEMAN WANTS AJAX SKIPPER KLAASSEN

Everton have a number of midfielders in their squad but manager Ronaldo Koeman wants to add Ajax star Davy Klaassen to the set-up this summer.

The 24-year old talented Dutch player recently led his team to the finals of the Europa League cup before crashing to Jose Mourinho’s men.

Klaassen joined Ajax youth academy aged 11 before making his debut in the 2011/2012 season. He played in the Champions League group game against Lyon. When he made his debut in the local league, he scored in less than a minute but he faced a career threatening injury soon after. He was sidelined for eight months but he fought his way back.

He has been captain of the youthful Ajax side for two years now. He has been regularly scouted in the last two seasons. Eintracht, Napoli, and others are a few reported sides but Koeman wants to join the race.

The star is likened to former Arsenal star Dennis Bergkamp but he labours farther behind. His technical skills, creativity and leadership make him a good addition to any side in Europe. In the 30 games he played in for Ajax this season, he created 55 chances, netting 12 of them. His link-up play, passing accuracy, and through ball stats are impressive.

Koeman could play his compatriot in defensive role or as a high press midfielder that also creates chances for the team. If the deal goes through, it would be disastrous to Gareth Barry’s hopes and it might make way for the James McCarthy deal. Klaassen would likely get first team action if he completes the deal.

The lack of Champions League football might be an issue as Ajax did well in the Europa League aside narrowly missing the Eredivisie title to Feyenoord.
