Gareth Barry has admitted that Everton’s form at Goodison Park

Gareth Barry has admitted that Everton’s form at Goodison Park should improve significantly if they are to rise up the table in the remainder of the season.

The club recently suffered a 1-0 loss against West Brom at home. The result has increased pressure on manager Roberto Martinez, who has been unable to deliver a consistent set of results even after spending vast sums of money in the summer. The acquisition of Romelu Lukaku has proven to be a hit, but the defence needs to be improved a lot as well. The team has especially been poor at home.

The loss against West Brom was the sixth at Goodison Park already this season. The statistic looks even worse when considering that only one loss has come away from home. There is no reason why Everton cannot think about improving their home record. Despite being shielded by an experienced midfielder like Gareth Barry, the defence has been unable to keep out the opposition. Everton went to great lengths to keep defender John Stones at the club, but there needs to be a collective effort if they are to climb up the table.

Apart from the Premier league, the club can look forward to winning the FA Cup in which they take on Bournemouth in the fifth round.“It is certainly something that needs looking at. We need Goodison to be a fortress. When I came here as an opposition player, I didn’t enjoy it because it was a tough place to come.We need to spin the home form around and do something about it. In terms of possession and creating chances, we had high numbers. On another day, if we score early we could have gone on to get two or three,” said the midfielder. The club’s next league match is a Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
