Gareth Barry won’t retire now
Everton midfielder Gareth Barry stated that he is not going to retire in the immediate future.
Gareth Barry has currently made 595 appearances in the Premier League and may be interested in equaling or beating the record of Frank Lampard and Ryan Giggs, who have made 609 and 632 appearances respectively.
Gareth Barry, who is currently 35-years old, seems very capable of achieving this record given that the player does not appear to be hindered by his age. He made 33 appearances for Everton last season and was named as the Player of the Season for the Toffees.
He said that he wants to continue playing as long as his body allows him and at the moment he does not feel any physical issue. He believes that he has been quite lucky in his career for avoiding serious injuries, and this has allowed him to stay in top conditions.
As a player, you need to understand your body and at the moment he feels that he can continue a few more years at the top level.
Gareth Barry believes that if you want to keep playing that long, it is important that you keep your desire. You need to be motivated to succeed if you want to continue playing. He admitted that sometimes it is difficult to be at 100% everyday especially when you have been doing it for quite some years.
He said that he wants to continue playing as long as he can as he will get plenty of time to relax after retirement. At the moment he wants to help his club Everton win some trophies and make sure they finish as high as possible in the Premier League. He believes that the Premier League will be more competitive next season and that they will have to be ready for it.
