TWO VILLA PLAYERS FIGHT EACH OTHER

Two players in the Aston Villa team clashed in the game against West Ham United on Monday night. Anwar El Ghazi tried to headbutt his teammate Tyrone Mings. Villa were under pressure to win the game or at least force a draw as they were in the relegation zone.

As the visitors broke in a counter attack, seeking a goal in the game, Mings was very furious at his teammate for his failure to track back and cover in the attack. The Dutch winger – with dual citizenship but skipped Morocco after Cristiano Ronaldo advice – who joined from Lille this summer has quite a reputation as a hothead but his talent cannot be ignored.

The Dutch winger – with dual citizenship but skipped Morocco after Cristiano Ronaldo advice – who joined from Lille this summer has quite a reputation as a hothead but his talent cannot be ignored.

El Ghazi was having none of Mings’ frantic efforts, and appeared to headbutt his teammate before they were separated by midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) had to check for a possible red card but he was left off. However, Mike Dean warned both players before the game could proceed. The 24-year old is expected to face retrospective action from the club.

The club fans reacted after the game, hoping the club takes internal actions to forestall a repeat. A section of the fans online expected the skipper Jack Grealish to have stepped in to quickly resolve, comparing him to Gareth Barry. The Aston Villa legend was deemed a better person to handle such in a team.

John Terry, Dean Smith’s assistant, was caught on camera less than impressed with the altercation. Play was quickly continued but the game ended goalless. The fight did not reach that of Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer back in 2005 when Newcastle faced same Villa.

He draw saw Aston Villa rise a spot to the 17th while Newcastle drop to the relegation zone following their 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday.

BURNLEY EXTEND VETERAN FORWARD CONTRACT

Burnley have reportedly extended the contract of veteran forward Aaron Lennon according to reports from England.

Lennon was a transfer target for Leeds City with the Sun reporting in February that the veteran forward was in line for a return to his childhood club in the summer.

BURNLEY EXTEND VETERAN FORWARD CONTRACT

Lennon was a transfer target for Leeds City with the Sun reporting in February that the veteran forward was in line for a return to his childhood club in the summer.

However, Burnley have put a stop to the move by triggering the extra year clause in his contract rather than allowing him to leave on a free this summer. Lennon began his career with Leeds in the early 2000s staring as a teenage forward before making the move to Tottenham in 2005.

At Tottenham, the forward became a regular starter for the club terrorizing opposing defences with his breathtaking speed and dribbling abilities.

His performances led to his call-up into the England national team where he appeared in a few tournaments. After a long successful stint at Tottenham, the 32-year-old moved to Everton and placed a few seasons before signing for Burnley last season.

His time at Burnley has been mixed with the forward missing games due to injuries but has generally performed well when called upon.

It is understood that Burnley boss Sean Dyche is a fan of the player and wants him to remain at the club ahead of next season.

Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa is keen on the forward as he has put serious considerations at the prospect of bringing the player back to Elland Road. Lennon made 45 appearances for Leeds during his stint at the club.

With this news of Burnley triggering the clause this would end all hopes of Leeds bringing the player in the summer.

Leeds could still move for the player in the transfer window as they look to recover from the disappointment of missing out of Premier League promotion.

West Brom currently sits fourth on the Championship table and are set to partake in the playoffs and Barry is looking to lead the team back to the Premier League. Barry is considered one of the most consistent midfielders to have played in the Premier League.

The Englishman made more than 400 appearances for Aston Villa before securing a big money move to Manchester City. He went on to win his solitary league success at the club before moving to Everton where he endeared himself to the fans due to his no holding back approach in the midfield.

Speaking at the Launch of Nick Mowl Cup Barry revealed that his health was good and he could still continue playing at a high level. He also admitted that it was up to the club to make the final decision at the end of the season depending on the final position of the team.

“Barry also talked about retiring admitting that the prospect of hanging his boots was a prospect that scared him a bit. He also urges the PFA to do “better in advising players about prospects outside football.

It is no surprise that several players run bankrupt after their playing days which Barry believes is as a result of negligence on the part of the PFA and clubs. Barry is a player that could still play well in the lower leagues but would be too old to start in the Premier League.
West Brom could keep him around next season if they qualifier for the EPL as his experience would be vital in the dressing room.

GARETH BARRY LOOKING FOR ONE MORE TASTE OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE

Gareth Barry is the epitome of durability and consistency that many Premier League players try to emulate. The record holder of the most appearances in the league at 653 matches is looking for one more glory day in the top flight. Barry was relegated playing for West Brom last season but still harbours hope of playing in the top flight next season.

WestBrom currently lies in the play-off places and have been on a good run of form in the Championship in recent weeks. The recent 2-0 victory away at Barry’s former side Aston Villa made it 6 wins in 7 away games for the club. In addition West Bromhave kept four clean sheets in the last 5 matches and sit just 4 points of the final automatic slot with a game in hand.

Gareth Barry has proved important in the quest for promotion making a total of 21 appearances in the league. He has started 13 matches and feature 7 times as a substitute and looks active which belies his age. The former Manchester City ace turns 38 on Saturday and looks in prime physical condition to play for a few seasons.

Barry had a trying period last season when he was involved in the infamous Taxigate alongside Jonny Evans, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill. Despite this incident, the veteran midfielder remained with the club in the summer after relegation.
“His record of 653 games looks safe as the next active player James Milner is 147 appearances “behind and turns 34 this season. it would take Milner 4 seasons to meet this tally which looks highly unlikely as “his appearances would reduce “ as he gets older.

Barry has enjoyed a Career that has spanned 4 different clubs in Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Brom where he is considered as a cult hero. It would be a befitting tribute to his career if he can secure promotion to the Premier League for one last hurray.

DONNELLY: PLAYERS TESTAMENT TO THE CLUB

They have shown immense loyalty to the club over the last couple of years, rejecting various offers from other top English sides to continue their football at the club.

Seffron Jordan and Natasha Fenton both surpassed a century of game for Blackburn Rovers earlier this month, while Jess Hobrook is edging close to an even more remarkable feat of 15o appearances for the club.

Speaking in interview, the head coach Donnelly said, “It’s really pleasing to see, it epitomizes what Blackburn Rovers Football Club is all about. That loyalty of being dedicated servants to the club and creating an environment where players want to perform for each other”.

“I think it is about the culture that we have created at Blackburn, for players to want to stay and represent the club”.

Donnelly feels the players have been trying to adopt the culture of working together to get the most successful outcome saying that they players are determined to work together to gain promotion to a division that they are more than worthy of playing in.

Since joining the Rovers at the tender age of 15, Fenton has graduated from the club’s academy into the first team while Jordan has found the back of the net 81 times in 104 appearances.

“The head coach admitted both players have had a tremendous journey“in their time at Blackburn Rovers and have “been easy to retain“, despite the setbacks they have faced.

Another player who has been in fine form is one of Fenton’s central midfield partners, Jess Holbrook. She has picked up four Player of the Match awards so far this season, more than any other player in the division.

Graeme Jones heaps praises on Gareth Barry

Graeme Jones has been active in Football management for over 10 years in the capacity of an assistant and has worked with different teams in England over this period, where he has come across various talented players, but one player who has stood out for him during his time as an assistant manager is Gareth Barry who is plying his trade at West Bromwich Albion at the moment.

Jones had the opportunity to see Barry from close quarters when the two of them were at Everton and the former says that the way Garry approaches the game, the kind of professionalism he shows; it’s absolutely fantastic.

According to Jones, it’s very hard to keep the emotions in check as a Football player, but nobody does it better than Barry. He has got such enormous control over his sentiments. He doesn’t go over the top with his emotions and he doesn’t go into his shell either. He is always the same whether he is winning or losing, whether he is performing well or not.

“Jones also talked about the fact that despite being in his late thirties now“ and being a veteran of the game having already achieved a lot in his career, Barry’s intensity in training has still not come down which is commendable. The amount of work he puts in the training sessions today is the same he used to put 10 years back. Even at this stage of his career he wants to improve “which is something to“ learn for each and every player playing the game.

“He’s had a fantastic career. He’s 37 years old and he still pushes himself. It’s a lesson for everybody.” Jones was quoted saying by HITC.
“He’s the most consistent professional I’ve ever worked with. His emotional control is what’s impressive about Gareth. He never gets too high, never gets too low.” Jones added.

Harvey Barnes: Gareth Barry Is Capable Of Playing Until He’s 40

Gareth Barry’s younger teammates believe he is capable of playing on until he is 40. The veteran midfielder, who turns 38 in February, is enjoying his first ever campaign in the second tier after 20 consecutive seasons in the Premier League. He’s worked his way into the Baggies team in recent weeks and has started four of the last six games for Darren Moore. In Albion’s last fixture, a 4-1 victory over Reading, he completed the full 90 minutes and started the match as captain.

Harvey Barnes was born just six months before Barry made his Villa debut 20 years ago, but the youngster believes his experienced teammate, who has played 770 senior games, can continue till his 40s. “I don’t see why not,” said Barnes, who is currently away with England under-21s. “He has had a great career and I’m sure he’d like it to continue. He is massive for the team. You can see when he steps into the team it sort of brings a calmness around the place. You see it in training all the time, but when you are out there on a Saturday he just brings that composure and he has got a great left foot. Everyone knows what he has achieved a lot in his career and he is a real asset to the team.”

Crawley Town midfielder Dannie Bulman, who turns 40 in January, is currently “the oldest player in league football and Barry isn’t even the oldest player in the Championship, because that accolade goes to Peter Crouch.“ But Barnes is grateful for the midfielder’s tips in the dressing room. “He helps the young lads,” he said. “He is great “in the changing room“ and with the young lads stepping up from the academy, he really helps them. He is just a great person to have in the dressing room.”

Everton loanee Kurt Zouma not giving up on Chelsea career

Everton loanee Kurt Zouma has said that he is confident of making a mark with parent club Chelsea despite going out on loan for the second straight season. The France international only penned a six-year deal with the Blues 12 months ago but he has since failed to make a single competitive appearance for the west London giants.

Despite this, he is unperturbed by the situation and he has the belief that he can break into the Blues setup once he has proved himself with regular gametime, he said: “I will go back, yes. I have always believed in myself since I started playing football at 16. I have always wanted to show myself at Chelsea since I have been there. I want to show people I can come back and play there.

“That’s why I need some game time at Everton here because they are a good team. I knew I needed to play regularly so I didn’t want to stay on the bench and wait for my chance after two or three months. He (Sarri) agreed with me. I spoke with him and I knew at Chelsea they had five central defenders already.”

“Zouma spent the previous season“on loan with Stoke City where he provided a number of good performances but unfortunately, the Potters could not beat the Premier League drop. This has however not hampered his reputation and he now has the opportunity of helping the Toffees to push for a European qualification spot this season.

Everton have certainly made a bright start to the campaign with five points accumulated from the opening three games but“ the results have come at a cost with both Richarlison and Phil Jagielka being sent off. “Aside from this, they have had injury concerns especially in the central defensive department where both Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are sidelined and this should witness more gametime for Zouma during the forthcoming matches.

GARETH BARRY TO REMAIN AT WEST BROM

Barry only joined last season from Everton FC on a one-year dealbut he featured enough to activate a one-year extension.

The 37-year old former England midfielder featured 30 times in all competitions last term. His 25 appearances in the Premier League helped him break the record for most games and set a new one at 653 games. Barry was part of the four players disciplined by the club for their role in breaking a curfew in a training camp in Barcelona. They borrowed a taxi for a prank that backfired. He last featured for the club on February 24 as he had fitness concerns and his form was below par.

With West Brom’s relegation to the Championship, there were speculations that he would retire or move to another continent to get a retirement bonus. However the player has opted to continue with the club for one more year. There were rumours he was moving to Aston Villa, having stated his pro career there and played for over a decade before the big money move to Manchester City, but they lost their play-off final.

The star, who has moved back to the Midlands, is on holidays ahead of the pre-season plans of West Brom. The Baggies are hoping they can return to the top flight as quick as possible.

A Peep Into Leighton Baines’s Everton Career

It might have gone unnoticed in the midst of Everton’s Europa League progression, but one Blue made history during the Ruzomberok tie. Leighton Baines is now the full-back that has the most appearances in club history, exceeding the great Tommy Wright who was at the top of the list.

The Everton legend, Baines celebrated the 10th anniversary of his arrival at Everton. In a summer of change, he remains a key figure for Ronald Koeman. The £6m sent to Wigan in August 2007 will go down as one of the best pieces of business the club have done. Seems irrelevant but it is not. Everton have had a few cultured left foots down the years – Kevin Sheedy being the most obvious example – but Baines appears first before any name you will care to mention.

Think of the free-kicks, especially the last-minute cup leveller at Stamford Bridge in 2011, the screamer at Newcastle in 2013, his Sheedy-esque double at West Ham a few months later, and how reliable his left shot is from the penalty spot. Flash back to the C-like corner kicks and those gorgeous, whipped deliveries from the left flank. He of course is the defender with the most assists in Premier League history, and he continues to rake them up.

It is a difficult task to maintain your levels in the Premier League across a season, not to talk of ten seasons. Baines joined Everton with a reputation as a steady-eddie type full-back, with attacking blood running in his veins, yet able to cope defensively. Although as expected, he initially struggled to gain a regular starting shirt as Joleon Lescott was the preferred left back for a spell. Whenever he was in the team, Baines was going nowhere. Everton’s Baines has been very reliable and delivering upon ageing.  He won Everton Player of The Year twice, he has always been a man to depend upon.
