Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has said that he is extremely overjoyed at the Premier league season that just concluded because it has been is best ever season. The 31-year-old managed to lift his first ever Premier league title this season with Manchester City.

The former Aston Villa midfielder was ridiculed by a lot of the Aston Villa supporters after his mega money move to Manchester city. Many criticised that he was choosing money over football, but Gareth Barry has said that he is pleased to prove them wrong. Barry won the FA Cup with Manchester city last season and this is his second trophy with the club.

The 31-year-old made 44 appearances during the entire season for Manchester City and has been an ever present force in the midfield alongside Yaya Touré. He has been able to keep Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong out of the side due to his impressive form. He will be returning to Aston Villa’s Villa Park next season as a Premier league Champion in order to face Chelsea in the Community Shield. Gareth Barry has also been included in the England squad for the Euro 2012 by manager Roy Hodgson. He is expected to play alongside Frank Lampard at the tournament.

“This is the perfect club for me. The formation the manager likes to play, with me as one of two holding midfielders, suits me. I feel I can play on until my mid-30s. Hopefully, that will be at City. I don’t expect to play every week but we’ll be challenging for honours over the next few years and I can’t ask for more than that. “It’s definitely been my best season ever. The amount of games I’ve managed to get, considering the squad we’ve got, has been brilliant,” said Barry.

According to Mancini, the 30 year old former Aston Villa midfield ace possess all the qualities that is required of a captain, particularly for a team like England and with Barry already winning 51 caps since the turn of the century, he has plenty of experience as well. Moreover, the midfielder from Hastings also has the experience of leading the England side after John Terry was dismissed as captain for the first time in 2010 in a come from behind 3-14 win against Egypt at the famous Wembley Stadium.

Mancini also added that Gareth Barry is one of those footballers who play with their brain, a very important asset for a footballer to have and that is something that should make him an automatic choice for the vacant England captaincy role. When asked about the media scrutiny that constantly surrounds the England captain, Mancini stated that Barry is extremely intelligent on and off the pitch and he will not find it hard to handle the media in England.

Moreover, Mancini stated that with the versatility that Barry brings to the England squad, he is easily one of their most important players and the captaincy role might just add an extra gear into his playing style. However, the player himself, Gareth Barry, has urged new interim England coach Stuart Pearce to consider Joe Hart, the Manchester City goalkeeper as a possible candidate for the role of the captain of The Three Lions.

BARRY WORRYING ABOUT TITLE

“We can’t afford to lose more ground because before we know it we will start to slip down the table, so it is a massive game for us.
