Spurs Stadium Set For 2018

The new Tottenham Stadium should be ready for the summer of 2017-18. Till then, the Spurs were expected to continue playing at their current home ground i.e. the White Hart Lane.

Even in the last season, the reports had come through that despite the heavy construction work to be done near the White Hart Lane, the Spurs are keen not to change it as their home venue in 2016-17.

But, it seems that the club board has started thinking differently now. They are believed to have realized that it would be really hard for the White Hart Lane to host the matches a couple of years later when the construction work at new arena would be on with full effect.

The stadiums which are in line to host the matches of Tottenham in 2016-17 are Wembley, Portman Road Ground and Olympic Stadium. The Amex where the Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion play their home matches has also emerged out as a contender of late.

Wembley normally is a huge stadium. It has an accommodation capacity of about 90,000. But, only the richest of clubs can afford to organize their matches there because of the high cost. So, one can imagine Tottenham to consider the other venues

However, finding a home ground for the 2016-17 Season is not the only issue in front of the Spurs board at the moment. There is another issue as well. They were expecting the CPO for the new stadium to be granted in just about 3 months’ time, but, it’s about more than a year now and still, there is no clarity over it. It has frustrated the club officials and rightly so.

Tottenham is currently having a dispute with a third party over the land of the new stadium. That dispute can get resolved only if the Eric Pickles grant CPO to the Spurs.
